Free Sewing Patterns and Tips!!!

I normally come up with blog ideas on my own, but once in awhile, I am inspired by my followers on twitter. There are a lot of topics I have too much information on to share via social media so a blog post becomes necessary. Last night's conversation on twitter is responsible for the creation of this blog post.

It started with a dear friend from California tweeting about his new Husqvarna sewing machine (I'm still very jealous) and the possible acquisition of a David Page Coffin (by the way, this gentleman is an awesome tailor) shirtmaking book. I started volunteering my favorite websites and recommendations. Others piped up to say that they wanted to be included on this information to, so here we go!!

I'll start by saying that every sewer and/or want-to-be sewer would benefit from a good sewing book. This book is one of my favorite basics. "Simplicity's Simply the Best Sewing Book" has tons of useful tips, regardless of what you're making. Simplicity also has a pretty nice website that offers free sewing projects. I do have other books, but am unable to find them due to my decluttering madness that involved reorganization of several of my studio and work areas. I will snap pictures of them and post them when I do find them.

While we still have David Page Coffin still fresh in our minds, how about we add his wonderful blog which is full of handy sewing tips and features a lot of his favorite sewing sites and people!

Amy Butler Designs for those of us who love quilting and for those who would like to start quilting. The are bright, gorgeous and best of all, FREE!

Freeneedle.com is a website that lists all the latest free projects and free clothes sewing patterns.

My personal favorite and, in my humble opinion, the best place to download free and purchase patterns that are copyright free is Burdastyle.com. This site also has it's own page dedicated to learning the art of sewing! Goodness knows we can't learn enough techniques.

All free sewing and favecrafts.com are free sites that do require you to sign up so you can receive free pattern downloads. They have everything including learning to sew, tips and tricks, sewing basics, quilting, and tons of projects and patterns.

Free Sewing Patterns Daily is one of my favorite blogs about sewing!

ThinkLiz.com has tons and tons of sewing patterns and tutorials!! She's spent a lot of time and effort putting together this list. Please enjoy!!

Sewing.org is part of the Sewing & Craft Alliance (SCA). SCA provides education and creative resources to the sewing and craft enthusiast. (as stated on their website)

The Darwin Exception is a blog that has mostly baby patterns, cozies, and accessories.

I love owls and was very pleased to find this list of free owl sewing patterns.

The Free Quilting website has a lot of free downloadable patterns available. You must sign up to receive the free downloads.

This is my favorite website to buy fabric from!!! http://www.fabric.com/Index.aspx They always have loads of wonderful clearance fabric, sales and other deals.

Last, but not least, is the website for my favorite free pattern generator software! http://www.wildginger.com/products/wildthings.htm

This list is not all inclusive of every website out there about sewing. It's just a listing of my favorites and of the ones that have been the most helpful to me. I hope my readers find it to be as useful as I do!!
